Publisher's Note

It has always been APB’s mission to provide you with ‘News You Can Use’ — and also, in whatever ways we can, to stimulate discussion on important issues or trends impacting the broadcast industry. Since our first CEO Roundtable in Amsterdam at IBC1999, attended by a dozen broadcasters from Asia, we have morphed the CEO Roundtable into an APB ConneXxion Forum so that more professionals can join in the annual sharing of views by top personalities in the media industry.

This year’s joint keynote presentation by Mock Pak Lum, managing director of Technologies, MediaCorp Enterprises (Singapore), and Stan Moote, vice-president of Corporate Development at Harris Broadcast Communications, on the theme 3i’s: interface, integrate & interchange — Seamless Broadcasting Across Multiple Platforms, held at the Laguna National Golf & Country Club in Singapore on June 15, was indeed a most stimulating session. It addressed the critical area of concern of many Asian broadcasters: How best to leverage the latest advances in broadcast and IT technologies to meet the profound changes taking place in the media industry today.

The sharing by Pak Lum of MediaCorp’s vision of where it aimed to be in three to five years’ time and Stan’s input on emerging business models and strategies that broadcasters could adopt to cost-effectively profit from new revenue streams in both the traditional and multi-platform environments, sparked a lively discussion. The interactive session, facilitated by John Ive, technology director of the IABM, elicited a flurry of comments, questions and additional information from the floor.

The forum also included presentations from Broadcast Australia, Microsoft and Tandberg Television on how they have helped broadcasters and telcos to go digital while monetising their content across different platforms.

The 2009APB ConnexXion Forum, as in previous years, was followed by a golf game to allow broadcast professionals and suppliers to walk the talk.

The success and continuation of this annual ConnexXion Forum is made possible largely by the generous support of our sponsors and speakers — and advice from APB’s team of panellists. On behalf of all of us at APB, we thank all concerned for your contribution and sponsorship.

Warmest regards
