| More power to DeckLink HD Extreme |

Blackmagic Design has introduced a more powerful version of the original DeckLink HD-Extreme card. The new switchable editing card carries all the features of the original device but with dual-link 3Gbps SDI for 4:4:4 quality, plus a new hardware downconverter for simultaneous HD and SD playback. The DeckLink HD Extreme is what Blackmagic Design calls the world’s first capture card to feature SDI, HDMI and analogue component, with NTSC, PAL and S-Video capture and playback. With the dual-link 3Gbps SDI technology, and hardware downconversion, the editing card now sells for only US$995. Combining SDI, HDMI and analogue video capture and playback with both balanced analogue and AES/EBU digital audio, the DeckLink HD Extreme allows connection to all decks, cameras and monitors. The card, which is capable of switching between SD and HD video, is useful to post-production and broadcast users when they work on design, editing and paint-and-effects tasks. It can instantly switch to accommodate full-resolution 2K feature-film editing. Its built-in hardware downconverter enables both SD and HD monitoring at the same time during playback and capture. At NAB 2008, Blackmagic Design pioneered 2K workflows via SDI using 3Gbps on its new Multibridge Eclipse editing solution and HDLink Pro monitoring solution. The same 2K feature-film workflow is currently available on a capture card that costs less than US$1,000. The newly-empowered DeckLink HD Extreme will be showcased at major trade shows this year, including NAB Show 2009 at Las Vegas Convention Center, booth SL10820. Last January, the company also introduced to the market two models of capture cards — the DeckLink Studio and the DeckLink SDI. The DeckLink Studio capture card, which was designed to replace SD cards, allows increased analogue connectivity for wide compatibility with older analogue equipment. It is also compatible with SD and HD-SDI for the latest digital equipment but at what is said to be a competitive cost of US$695. The DeckLink SDI, which combines high-quality 10-bit SD/HD-SDI capture and playback, costs as low as US$395. This card is for users involved in high-end broadcast and post production with large SDI-based facilities requiring many creative work-station seats.
