Sony has unveiled its SC-300 and HXC-100 cameras, and MVS-6000 switcher. The HD cameras are driven by Sony’s digital triax transmission technology, allowing broadcast customers to shift seamlessly and cost-effectively to digital transmission and HD using their existing triax cable infrastructures. The HSC-300, designed to roll smoothly with Sony’s existing large lens adaptors, can be used with triax cable runs of up to 1,300m, while the HXC-100 can handle up to 850m runs. Carrying comprehensive image controls with wide dynamic range and a 14-bit A/D, the two models feature 3 x 2/3-inch Power HAD FX CCD with 2.2 million pixels. Both can switch between 1080i and 720P 50/60 Hz, with 525i and 625 SD modes available on the camera head and CCU. The cameras are compatible with Sony viewfinders HDVF- 200, HDVF-20A, HDVF-C35W, HDVF-550, HDVF-C730W and HDVF-C950W. Sony’s MVS-6000 Switcher is a “system on a chip” image processor with ELC automation. It embeds keyer and DME processing within the switcher’s CPU, allowing multi-format switching, multiple key channels, transitions and DME functions to be carried out on one chip. Inheriting many of the capabilities of the MVS-8000G, the switcher is expandable to take up to 49 inputs. It is also available in configurations up to 2.5ME. Aside from options for internal format conversion, frame memory and internal DME, the switcher can be purchased as an SD unit and upgraded to multiformat at any time. The MVS-6000 can be a companion for Sony’s enhanced live-production control (ELC) system-automation software. Its new software option, model ELCMVS01, is designed for integration into SD and HD newsroom control systems, and is also available for the existing MVS-8000A and MVS-8000G lines. Meanwhile, Sony’s latest additions to the XDCAM HD422 series of optical-disc products — the new PDW-F800 CineAlta camcorder and PDW-F1600 deck — expand the capabilities of the MPEG HD422 codec. Both offer a frame rate of 23.98p natively in 1080 mode and multi-format recording flexibility as standard. The SD recording includes support to MPEG IMX, DVCAM and 4:2:0 HD content.
