Sport TV upgrades to HD with Quantel solutions
Posted: December 2009

Sport TV upgrades to HD with Quantel solutionsSport TV, a Portuguese subscription-based sports broadcaster, has purchased Quantel’s Enterprise sQ

server-based production system upgrade to handle all of the company’s HD production needs for its sports programming.

The new system at Sport TV includes more than 400 hours of HD storage and supports a number of sQ View and sQ Cut journalist workstations as well as three eQ and sQ Edit Plus craft edit suites.

Sport TV has relied on Quantel’s Enterprise sQ SD production system for a number of years to handle its rapidly growing production needs across a large range of sports that includes the channel’s exclusive coverage of Liga Sagres and Champions League soccer, Formula One motor racing, and basketball, volleyball, rugby and tennis games.

“This is a logical move as we launch two additional HD channels, and is also in line with our plan to move all our broadcasting to HD by 2012,” said José Mourão, Sport TV’s technical director. “Not only is our production team already very familiar and comfortable with the Quantel interfaces and workflow, but even more importantly they can move to HD without any need for retraining or learning new skills. With Quantel, all the interfaces and workflow are unchanged, whether they are working in HD, SD or a mixture of both. That is a great advantage for us all.”
