Pro Tools, said to be one of the industry’s most popular music creation and audio production solution
, recently saw its software-only option with Avid’s introduction of the Pro Tools version 9.Leveraging a next-generation architecture, the new Pro Tools offers users the choice to work with Avid audio interfaces, third-party audio interfaces, or without the need for hardware when using the built-in audio capabilities of a Mac or PC. New support for the Avid EuCon open Ethernet protocol now enables users to expand control surface options to include Avid’s Artist Series and Pro Series audio consoles and controllers. The enhanced Pro Tools now comes with high-value features that were previously available as add-ons. Users can now mix and record with increased alignment and phase accuracy, without the need to manually compensate for latencies from hardware I/Os, internal and external routing, and plug-in algorithm processing. More audio tracks and busses are now available, allowing users to enhance their music and audio productions, with support for 96 mono or stereo voices, 256 internal busses and 160 aux tracks. In addition, the advanced production toolset allows users to analyse and adjust timing across multiple tracks for a tighter sync with the built-in multi-track Beat Detective module, improves organisation and asset sharing with the DigiBase Pro file management tool, while saving time with full Import Session Data dialogue. A series of audio for picture enhancements in the Pro Tools v.9 will also enable users to easily collaborate with other audio and video software users, including: The OMF/AAF/MXF interchange and MP3 export feature, which provides customers with simplified session and file exchange between applications; the built-in time-code ruler feature, which enables users to achieve greater accuracy when syncing audio to video in post production; the updated 7.1 surround panner, which allows users to easily mix multi-channel surround for full film and sound production; and the new variable stereo pan depths feature, which equips users with authentic and precise track-panning capabilities to achieve analogue-console feel. Avid also recently introduced the Pro Tools HD Native that enables music and post-production professionals to tackle demanding audio projects using the full capabilities of Pro Tools HD software running entirely on computer CPU host-processing power — delivering a new level of price performance and simplified, open workflows for recording, editing and mixing. Version 9 of the new Pro Tools and Pro Tools HD software are available worldwide at US$599 onwards.
