Panasonic Corporation recently launched its 3D Innovation Center-Hollywood,
to accelerate the growth of 3D-related businesses and provide a wide range of high-quality 3D content. The new centre will integrate with the company’s 15-year-old R&D facility — the Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory, also located in California, USA.Incorporating the 3D Innovation Center-Hollywood within Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory will further deepen the company’s ties with the movie studios, broadcast and entertainment industries, encourage the creation of a wide range of high-quality 3D content and 3D applications, and further improve 3D production technology. Panasonic’s Hollywood Laboratory has a long list of accomplishments in 3D-related technologies, including the development of a 3D format for Blu-ray Discs. The leadership shown by Panasonic in the field of 3D has earned it the Charles Wheatstone Award from the International 3D Society and much praise from the industry. The 3D business, including 3D TVs, is expected to grow into a market worth US$60 billion by 2020 as full-scale expansion takes off. Panasonic has already established other 3D innovation centres in Osaka, Japan, and Wiesbaden, Germany, in 2010. With this new centre in Hollywood, the company said it has formed a solid infrastructure in the three regions where demand for 3D products and services is most developed. In the future, all three centres will work closely to share ideas and discuss the diverse needs of each region and business field. The new 3D centre in Hollywood aims to work on the following: n Providing 3D experience for the industry (including demonstrating a state-of-the-art 3D experience using 3D equipment for both consumers and professionals). n Holding 3D educational seminars (covering the principles of 3D, physiological reaction to 3D, 3D shooting and editing techniques). n Proposing 3D solutions (total solutions, including systems/equipment and content, for enterprises). n Arranging 3D promotions (planning and executing 3D-related events).
