| Litepanels shines bright for filmmaker |
| Posted: December 2011 | ||||||
Hailing from Karlsruhe, Germany, Daniel Freytag is a freelance camera operator cum filmmaker who has founded his own production company
and completed several diverse promotional films as well as video projects for regional TV channels.For his latest project, Totgeburt (Stillbirth), Freytag used the 1x1 Bi-Focus LED production light and the compact MicroPro camera light from Litepanels, a Vitec Group brand, to complete his short film. For Totgeburt, filming was done both indoors and outdoors in different locations in Germany. Throughout filming, the compact MicroPro provided the soft lighting required to evenly illuminate the faces of the protagonists; while during almost all of the indoor shoots, Freytag and his team relied on the 1x1 Bi-Focus production light. For most of the scenes, the lighting conditions ranged from gloomy to dark, particularly while filming in a café, in an underground garage and a public restroom. In the café, the 1x1 Bi-Focus was used as an additional fill for the actors to counteract the dim lighting of the location, while in the underground garage, the 1x1 was used as key and effect lights. “The Litepanels lights are capable of very versatile usage. We were able to experiment with the light and conjure up great effect,” commented Freytag, who was also impressed with the 1x1’s dimming function. “Flicker-free dimming from 100% to 0% was a great help while working with sensitive HD-DSLR cameras. Furthermore, we were able to do without reflectors, filters and other accessories.”
