| R&S’ new TV analyser supports DAB, T-DMB |
| Posted: March 2009 | ||||||
Germany’s Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) has launched a TV analyser that meets the DAB (digital audio broadcasting) and T-DMB (terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting) standards.The ETL-K250 can perform all required radio-frequency measurements for transmitters and networks using the DAB and T-DMB standards. It is capable of selectively detecting error sources, enabling transmitter manufacturers and operators, and regulatory authorities to eliminate the errors quickly and in real time, R&S said. The TV analyser features a modulation-error ratio (MER) of greater than 40dB, allowing precise testing of high-grade signal sources. With the channel-impulse response and constellation diagram, users can swiftly evaluate signal quality on-site during measurement. DAB or T-DMB programmes and data ser-vices are made visible on the instrument at a glance. The R&S ETL also provides an ETI interface to transfer the demodulated transport stream to external equipment where it can be analysed and further pro-cessed if necessary. R&S said it has already made a key contribution to testing T-DMB in practice. “The standard is no longer restricted to Asia, and network operators are investing in such transmission systems worldwide. DAB continues to gain ground as well. More than 40 countries currently use this standard,” the Munich-based company said. The ETL-K250 option optimises the R&S ETL TV analyser for acceptance, maintenance and service of T-DMB/DAB transmitters-test shops and coverage measurements in transmitter networks. Currently, the T-DMB standard is used in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and South Korea for the transmission of TV and radio programmes as well as data to mobile receivers such as mobile phones, pocket PCs and other handheld devices.
