| New DMT repeater smooths path to digital switch-over for broadcasters |
| Posted: March 2009 | ||||||
Italy-based DMT Systems’ latest DSO (Digital Switch-Over) repeater can smooth the way to digital transmission for broadcasters. It can help solve typical issues that TV networks encounter following conversion. Repeaters are important building blocks in the transition as they are instrumental in achieving good-quality service during the process, DMT said. With its so-called “transparent” configuration, the DSO repeater can automatically detect the input-signal mode and allows the network to continue operating in analogue mode. Even during the switch, stations equipped with the DSO repeater are immediately ready to start transmission and the operation channel remains the same without human intervention, the company said. With repeaters widely deployed in high-coverage networks, DMT said the DSO repeater’s transparency feature allows broadcast networks to switch over to digital in fewer man-hours. The DSO’s transparent operation also reduces the risks involved as broadcast networks switch signals from analogue to digital. It also allows for efficient planning and better time distribution. The DSO repeater features 100W rms output power in a compact size and the capability to operate in SFN (isofrequency) mode. For higher output power, it can be combined with external PA units to deliver up to 500W rms. Passive reserve 1+1 and n+1 configurations are also available for both VHF and UHF bands.
