| China’s Tianjin deploys Tandberg TV’s system |
| Posted: April 2009 | ||||||
China’s cable-TV operator Tianjin Broadcast & TV Network has deployed a fully-redundant cable headend supplied by Tandberg Television, a member of the Ericsson Group.
The headend system consists of encoders, multiplexers and QAM modulators built on Tandberg’s iSIS 8000 solution.Tandberg said the system is its first deployment of its next-generation MX8400 IP multiplexer in China, and will enable Tianjin Cable to harness the efficiencies of IP as it expands its cable pay-TV business. Tianjin, one of China’s largest cable-TV operators, is said to be preparing to transition two million subscribers to advanced DTV services with the help of the Tandberg systems. Geng Liang, regional vice-president of Greater China for Tandberg Television, said Tianjin is the latest TV operator in China that it is assisting to transition to digital across different platforms. It is precisely of this track record that Tianjin has chosen Tandberg, the company said. “We have a long history of helping TV operators in China to deploy efficient and flexible distribution platforms which enable the delivery of increased channel choice, HDTV and VoD,” the Tandberg official added. The project was integrated by NDT, Tandberg’s business partner in China. The Tandberg MX8400 is a new generation of system multiplexer which meets the needs of both ASI and IP distribution infrastructures together with robustness suitable for mission-critical applications. Ideal for a wide range of multiplexing and re-multiplexing applications, the MX8400 introduces a new concept in multiplexing that enables it to support up to multiple independent output streams, allowing for greater flexibility and for future system expansion.
