| Audemat deploys new features for mobile DTV |
| Posted: October 2009 | ||||||
Audemat has announced significant new functionality, including MPEG-4 support for its range of mobile metering equipment for DTV.
Its Navigator DVB-T/H is one of the industry-standard systems for mobile measurement for both DVB-T and DVB-H, said the company, with hundreds of units already deployed by broadcast regulators and broadcasters worldwide. Now, as more and more countries plan to offer H.264/AVC MPEG-4 for the delivery of HD services over DVB-T, the system has been updated to also offer compatibility with MPEG-4 video coding. Used to conduct mobile measurement campaigns on foot or in a vehicle, the Navigator DVB-T/H enables real-time measurement of RF parameters and MPEG data as well as content monitoring, display and recording. All information is stored, complete with GPS coordinates, to enable the extensive analysis of coverage performance and the export of results to software mapping applications. A single antenna receiver is also added to the features of the Navigator DVB-T/H, which now supports both single and diversity modes. “The addition of MPEG-4 support to the Navigator DVB-T/H ensures that we continue to offer professional, practical solutions to assist those working in the vanguard of DTV,” noted Jean Baptiste Roux, group vice-president of sales. “In each of the 35 countries where DVB-T is currently on air, broadcasters have selected the Navigator DVB-T/H as the test equipment of choice for mobile measurement campaigns. Now, with this latest update, we have a similarly comprehensive solution for those involved in the roll-out of DVB-T in conjunction with MPEG-4.” Nicolas Boulay, Audemat’s vice-president for R&D and product, added: “The breadth of data measured by the Navigator DVB-T/H and the in-depth analysis offered make it the ideal tool not only for broadcasters commissioning transmitter networks but also for broadcast authorities who need to ensure compliance with regulations. “When it was first released, the Navigator DVB-T/H set a new standard in mobile measurement. Now, with the addition of support for MPEG-4, the unit continues to be the best technical solution for digital TV measurement.” Existing users can upgrade their systems to support MPEG-4 by simply purchasing an optional software module, with no hardware modifications necessary. The Navigator and Goldeneagle ranges from Audemat offer mobile measurement and signal monitoring of a wide range of current broadcast technologies, including AM, FM, HD Radio, DAB/DAB+/T-DMB, ATSC, DVB-SH, DVB-T and DVB-H. As part of the new group identity as WorldCast Systems, comprising Audemat, Ecreso and APT, the company is able to supply complete end-to-end solutions for the transport, transmission and monitoring of radio and TV signals.
