| Thuraya adds Relay Mode function to IP solution |
| Posted: February 2012 | ||||||
Thuraya, an international mobile satellite services operator providing communication solutions
in more than 140 countries across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australia, has upgraded its Thuraya IP solution. The solution now features a functionality that Thuraya said is vital for supporting a variety of applications for large organisations and enterprises. Known as Relay Mode, the new functionality will allow NGOs, governments, broadcast media, energy and other vertical and private Thuraya IP users to run a range of applications that require a public IP address on the terminal equipment attached to the IP device. Rashid Bala, Thuraya’s director of product management, said: “We have set the bar with our Thuraya IP solution as the world’s smallest satellite broadband solution to support 384kbps streaming. With the new Relay Mode, Thuraya IP will continue to provide a superior high-speed data experience and flexibility for our consumer base that relies on Thuraya IP for critical communications.” Offering standard IP speeds of 444kbps, Thuraya IP is also said to be the “only” satellite broadband solution with asymmetric streaming capabilities. This feature, said Thuraya, enables users to select upload and download speeds according to actual requirements — saving up to 40% in transmission costs. With Relay Mode, any terminal equipment used with Thuraya IP can now obtain a dynamic or static global public IP address, allowing for higher operational efficiency and compatibility with all industry-specific applications, Bala concluded.
