| Making global media workflows a reality |
 “A change as significant as the introduction of the mobile phone” — that is what Quantel is calling its new QTube workflow-over-IP technology.
According to the company, QTube enables fast, flexible workflows that span countries, continents and the globe, making global media workflows a reality for the first time.With an Internet access, QTube allows media assets to be securely accessed within seconds from any location. Microsoft’s Smooth Streaming adaptive bit-rate technology provides the “best possible” picture quality on a second-by-second basis, while the Virtual Quantel File System (VQFS) enables instant access to the content over Smooth Streaming. In addition, QTube offers metadata editing, quality downloads and, critically, says Quantel, frame-accurate editing. QTube works with both SD and HD content, and is completely scalable to support as many users as required. QTube deliveries began in May this year. Systems are being beta-tested with broadcasters around the world. Ray Cross, Quantel’s CEO, said: “We’ve shown QTube to more than 300 broadcasters around the world so far this year and the reaction has been fantastic. “Some of the potential applications for QTube include, among others, secure remote viewing and approval of media, remote selection of shots at an event and transferring them to base while the event is still in progress, and archive preparation. “The possibilities are almost endless; QTube heralds a change for broadcasting that is as significant as the introduction of the mobile phone,” concluded Cross.
