will debut the RedKey 3 digital TV receiver client software at BroadcastAsia2011. HbbTV, or Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV, is a major new pan-European initiative aimed at harmonising the broadcast and broadband delivery of entertainment to the end-consumer through connected TVs and set-top boxes. RedKey 3 integrates the NetFront Browser from Japanese software provider Access, with HbbTV signalling and S&T’s DSM-CC client. The S&T implementation of NetFront is based on the same API (application programming interface) already used in S&T’s RedKey 2 engine for MHEG-5, and significantly reduces integration costs for receiver manufacturers requiring support for both interactive application standards, says S&T, which will also be showcasing the RedKey 2 engine at booth 4E2-06. The RedKey 2 is the current version of S&T’s MHEG-5 interactive-TV standard that has been implemented in the UK Freeview/Freeview HD service. RedKey 2 also supports the MHEG-5 Interaction Channel IP connectivity to enable hybrid broadcast/broadband receivers for video-on-demand and catch-up TV services. Other products that S&T will be showcasing include the S&T Player, an MHEG application for video-on-demand services, and the TSMonitor, a product for automatic monitoring of MHEG and ETV interactive applications.
