After being showcased at trade shows around the world, the Harris Selenio platform will make its South-east Asian bow when Harris Broadcast Communications introduces the Selenio at this year’s show.

Calling it the broadcast industry’s “first integrated media convergence platform”, Harris says that the Selenio is ideal for hybrid environments because it combines traditional baseband video and audio processing, video and audio compression, and IP networking technology into a single platform.

Because the Selenio is flexible and modular, it is suitable for any fixed or mobile production environment, broadcast facility or digital terrestrial redistribution headend (DVB-T/T2, ATSC, M/H), as well as cable, satellite and IPTV headends. In addition, the Selenio enables service providers to support content from multiple sources and deliver it over multiple platforms.

According to Harris, operational benefits of the Selenio media convergence platform include intelligent, efficient management of both IP, compressed and baseband signals, reduced control complexity, simple deployment and increased functionality in a smaller footprint.

Harris has also designed the Selenio architecture to maximise operational efficiency. MPEG-2 and H.264 compression standards are supported from SD and HD to 3D and mobile. Virtually any advanced audio capability — including best-in-class loudness control — can be mixed and matched on a single module, adds Harris, who is at booth 4R2-01.
