Tandberg TV demonstrates DTV vision

Tandberg Television, part of the Ericsson Group, is using CommunicAsia 2009 and BroadcastAsia2009 as platforms to demonstrate its DTV vision, supported by major product announcements and pioneering technology demonstrations.

The company says it is raising the bar for functionality and performance in compression, acquisition and video transport for HD and SD services, and is showing how it can help operators deliver new consumer experience with next-generation DTH, IPTV, on-demand and personalised advertising.

“We are really excited by the products we are launching and demonstrating at this year’s show,” comments Dario Choi, executive vice-president and general manager of Tandberg Television Asia-Pacific.

“Our new MPEG-2 SD encoder delivers the biggest improvement to MPEG-2 in five years, and our new C&D solutions meet the market demand for video quality and high levels of integration and interoperability. We are demonstrating very clearly in Singapore that we have the technologies broadcasters and operators need today, while visitors can also see the solutions that turn the vision of the ‘Individual TV Experience’ and ‘Any Platform to Any Device’ into a reality,” Choi adds.

The Tandberg TV products displayed at booth 4K3-01 include a number of products making their debut in Asia:

  • EN8100 MPEG-2 SD encoder, said to be the world’s most powerful MPEG-2 encoder which offers 15%-30% bandwidth savings, 50% less power consumption and 50% more density
  • RX8200 integrated receiver/decoder, which gives service providers à la carte freedom to select the features they need.
  • RX8330 distribution receiver, which can receive HD services and provide a downconverted SDI output for broadcast or monitoring applications.
  • Cortex-2, which simplifies the management of video resources over either ATM or IP/MPLS networks.
  • Next-generation EN8040 Voyager, the world’s most integrated and complete SNG uplink solution.
  • Next-generation MediaPath secure content delivery system (SCDS).
