A post-production company specialising in sports coverage has installed Wohler Technologies’

VMDA-SUM8 analogue/digital summing audio monitors in its new Liberty HD two-truck mobile-TV production unit.

Wohler said Game Creek Video would use six VMDA-SUM8 monitors for the monitoring and mixing of intercom AUX inputs.

Game Creek has been providing some of the top TV companies in the US with production and engineering services. These companies include ABC, CBS, ESPN, Fox, HBO, NBC, Major League Baseball, NBA Entertainment, YES Network, The USA Network and Winnercomm.

Game Creek’s mobile production units have been used in some of the major sporting events in the US such as the World Series, Baseball’s All Star Game, the Super Bowl, the NBA Finals and the NBA All Star Game, the MLS Cup, the Masters and the Kentucky Derby.

“We’ve always worked with Wohler audio monitoring products, and we selected the VMDA-SUM8 for Liberty because it provides eight channels where most systems offer just four or six,” said Jason Taubman, vice-president of design and engineering at Game Creek Video. “The summed output feature on the VMDA-SUM8 also was a major factor in our purchase decision, as it offers operators the convenience of creating a small eight-channel mix-down into one headset. As a result, production staff can put that audio in their ears rather than in front of them.”

Wohler’s VMDA-SUM8 analogue/digital summing audio monitor delivers self-powered stereo or mono monitoring in a 1U rack size and 4.5-inch depth, making the system ideal for mobile production. A total of eight mono or four stereo channels may be put together and monitored from the two speakers on the front panel. The user may select digital AES/EBU or standard analogue audio-input sources for each of the eight input channels to be monitored.

The VMDA-SUM8 has eight volume controls on the front panel for separate adjustment of each channel in the summing mix, with a recessed trim pot as a master volume control for all eight selected channels.
