| India's Doordarshan to digitise media library with Dalet's technology |
| Posted: February 2009 | ||||||
India national broadcaster Doordarshan is digitising its media library with help from Dalet.
With the Dalet Media Library system, files which were once difficult to search for because they were available on tape can now be made widely available to users. This is an advantage, considering the archives of the Delhi-based station contain thousands of hours of programmes, covering the country’s cultural, historical and religious events, current affairs as well as government and political commentaries. Dalet’s media-asset management platform helps facilitate the migration of existing tape-based content as well as newly-created content into a centralised digital repository. “The Dalet technology does more than centralise the archives. It also provides a platform by which valuable assets can be exchanged, allowing them to be used in even more meaningful ways,” said Arnaud Elnecave, general manager, Dalet Asia-Pacific. “The Doordarshan project is one of the first media-asset management initiatives in India’s public broadcast market,” said Anurag Kumar, deputy general manager for HCL Infosystems, system integrator for the project. “This first phase constitutes the heart of the enterprise system. It provides the core, fundamental workflow in which media — existing, present and future — will be stored in a central database and readily available in just about any format by any authorised user regardless of location.” The Dalet Media Library manages all the media operations such as conversions of media into proxies for fast online viewing, transfers between different storage units, and indexing of the video content.
