By using the Observer, True Visions has done away with the tape-based system, replacing it with round-the-clock capability to record and archive all video while it is being shown over each of the TV operator’s channels. Previously, True Visions relied heavily on the video-tape-based system for its archiving and recording tasks from each channel. The tape made the job of engineers more difficult ¬because of the accompanying physical problems such as short shelf life and large storage footprint. “With the Observer, we can count on consistent high-quality recorded video that is incredibly easy to access and use, and the savings in rack space, video-tapes and maintenance for VCR systems have yielded an impressive return on our investment,” said Roengrit Sereejumroenrojn, True ¬Visions senior manager of transmission. Aside from enabling True Visions to automatically record all aired content, the Observer provides a digital archive for easy access and retrieval within a 30-day period as required by the Government Public Relations Department of Thailand. And, unlike the time-consuming tape-based system, which had required True Vision engineers to manually search the video for clips as well as change, label and store the tapes at the end of each ¬recording, the Observer’s user-friendly search capability, based on the content’s closed captions, enables quick access of particular video clips using a Web browser interface. This has led to the sharing of clips via e-mail. Following the success of the Observer in addressing the issue of regulatory compliance, True Visions is now focusing on the use of the system for the verification of advertising and competitive analysis. Thailand-based Trinergy, Volicon’s reseller, provides the sales, installation and integration services.
