Front Porch Digital has unleashed a new product along with improvements to some of its existing systems. Making its debut at the 2009 NAB show next month in Las Vegas is the DIVAsolo, an all-in-one migration path from legacy video-tape to content-storage management (CSM) and archiving on a secure, high-density tape. Described as a compact, turnkey solution, the DIVAsolo joins three of the company’s proven technologies: The SAMMA Solo, which performs large-scale, real-time video-tape migration to multiple essence formats; the DIVAworks, which combines with Front Porch Digital’s flagship product, the DIVArchive for managing the storage and security of digital files; and the DIVAdirector, which enables the intuitive search, browsing and management of stored digital content from user desktops. The company has also come out with an improved version 6.2 of the DIVArchive. Among this version’s key enhancements are dynamic interface in Apple Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Studio environments, including support for all features of the Final Cut Studio solution; dynamic configuration management; components running as protected OS-level services with automatic restart and advanced logging; improvements to nearline disk management, including logging and error management; a damaged-tape recovery utility; and added support for robotic library, data-tape drive and timecode-based partial-restore formats. Enhancement, too, has been made to the DIVAdirector. To meet global media enterprises’ most pressing media-asset management (MAM) requirements, Front Porch Digital has come out with a version 4.0 of the system, which tracks assets in a storage system, allowing users to browse content in automatically-generated low-bit-rate proxies to create frame-accurate shot lists and access a flexible asset metadata model using robust query tools. The improvements are added keyframe and thumbnail support for visual content access, and support for virtual assets, including legacy database import with metadata field mapping, federated database functionality, full Unicode support, and an expanded metadata model with almost infinite extensibility. Version 4 can also be actively linked to external databases for a comprehensive and consolidated view of all metadata from a single configurable and secure interface. Front Porch Digital’s combined operations with SAMMA Systems, which it acquired recently, enable the company to offer an end-to-end solution for cost-effectively digitising, accessing and preserving media past, present and future. Front Porch Digital is said to be able to accelerate the migration of vulnerable video-tape on an unprecedented, global scale to optimise and secure digital storage.
