It has secured orders from China’s ZTE and Taiwan’s Indigo Mobile Technologies for its digital rights management (DRM) solutions for mobile technologies. ZTE’s 500 telecoms partners are expected to benefit from the company’s latest move to secure the delivery of rich media content using Irdeto technology. “As data services are forming a greater proportion of the overall income in the rapidly-expanding mobile-communications market, we are delighted to partner Irdeto to drive the adoption of mobile broadcasting and uptake of -mobile multimedia services through the deployment of strong content-security technology to ensure the success of our business,” said Lin Quiang, general manager for ZTE’s smart-phone product. Describing the multimedia-services market as “rapidly-changing”, Irdeto’s senior vice-president for sales and marketing, Doug Lowther, said the company’s cross-platform architecture-based solution would enable ZTE to deliver the services demanded by customers. Irdeto’s mobile DRM solutions, which are based on the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) standards, range from OMA 1.0 and OMA 2.0 DRM to premium conditional-access (CA) products for high-value content. OMA is a more than 300-company consortium, which defines the OMA download and OMA DRM standards for the mobile-device industry. The same DRM solution used for ZTE is deployed by Taiwan’s Indigo Mobile Technologies to protect its mobile content-delivery platforms. The leading Taiwanese wireless communication-device designer is implementing the security technology in the I-Mobile Sense80 mobile phone, a Micro-soft Windows Mobile OS-based smart phone. “The demand for mobile multimedia services is very strong, and we needed a solution that would deliver high-quality standard and support our revenue model. Irdeto’s OMA DRM solution, which came highly recommended to us, is ideally suited for dispatch in our smart phones. “We are excited [about] our first shipment of Windows -Mobile OS-based smart phones with OMA DRM to our customer, -Samart, in Thailand,” said Harrison Chang, CEO of Indigo Mobile Technologies. Irdeto is confident of its ability to help companies address the requirements for secure mobile content and across many platforms. Its solution is said to be ideally suited for today’s mobile content, including ring tones, games, and music and videos, finely balancing security with features and interoperability.
