| Nexio manages content easily with support for multiple file formats |
| Posted: May 2009 | ||||||
Harris Corporation has enhanced the capability of its Nexio family of video servers for the direct import of GXF (general exchange format), or SMPTE 360M, and Avid MediaStream MPEG files in a broadcast workflow.Such compatibility allows the Nexio, which can also accommodate multiple software codecs, to import content from all MediaStream video servers and media archives, as well as other platforms such as Grass Valley’s. While transitioning from a broader assortment of video formats to the Nexio platform, content owners can expect preservation of content essence and associated metadata. Pointing out that broadcasters work with multiple file formats, having acquired content in a variety of video formats and using different server and archive platforms, Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications, said: “Direct file import [into] the Nexio servers enables broadcasters to handle this content without the need to return it to baseband video at any point in the workflow. “This strategy allows broadcasters to import original files from various devices for immediate playback at their original quality, without any generation loss.” Avid had earlier announced that it would cease support for the MediaStream 8000 playout server and its associated components in September 2013. This is said to be an opportunity for Nexio to prove its role as a solution for MediaStream users seeking high-quality, long-term playout support for their content.
