| Irdeto celebrates 40th year with HD mobile-TV initiative in Vietnam |

Today, it is recognised for its ex-per-tise in providing protection solutions and services for content and business models.“Over the past four decades, our unique technologies and strategies have enabled everything, from the world’s first digital satellite pay-TV network to the world’s first mobile broadcast-TV ser-vice,” said Bengt Jonsson, -Irdeto’s vice-president-sales, Asia-Pacific. “This history of innovation conti-nues today as we expand our business to protect new platforms and provide end-to-end solutions for a wide range of customers and their marketplaces. “We deliver a converged network architecture that unifies conditional access (CA) and digital rights management DRM [in] content delivery and protection while extending the operators’ span of control into the home network.” The company has attained substantial market momentum in Asia over the past year, claiming CA leadership in South-east Asia with a 64% market share. The company has also seen strong growth in India and China with top-tier pay-TV operators. Jerry Park, Irdeto’s regional director and general manager, South-east Asia, said: “We were the first in the world to introduce mobile-TV services in South -Korea in 2004, and currently [have] a subscriber base of 1.95 million in the country, making it the world’s biggest mobile platform.” The latest feather in Irdeto’s cap is the launch of national broadcaster VTC’s mobile-TV service in Vietnam. To be introduced initially in the capital city of Hanoi, the HD service will be extended across the country over a three- year period. “The deployment of DVB-H technology is part of the broadcaster’s aggressive plans to grow its subscriber base to speed up the take-up rate for mobile-TV services and to offer new ways for consumers to view content away from traditional TV screens,” says Park. “Our solution was selected because it is able to ‘simulcrypt’ with the broadcaster’s existing DVB-H platform, which allows VTC to protect its initial infrastructure investment.” Of Irdeto’s achievements, Park explained: “We live in a world where digital media is getting transformed around us every day. Digital lifestyle consumers are flocking to new technologies, challenging the traditional ways of doing business. “New and existing providers that give them greater control over how, when and where they purchase, acquire and enjoy their favourite media content will thrive.” One of the most critical success factors remains the content provider’s ability to protect media content from theft or misuse, and to provide compelling media experiences that draw audiences back for more. Park added: “We are committed to enabling pay-TV operators, telcos, content owners and consumer-electronics manufacturers to succeed in the digital media age by providing innovative and reliable technologies that protect and monetise -digi-tal assets, and maxi-mise returns on any content sent over any network to any device.” Irdeto has rapidly expanded its portfolio over the past few years to provide capabilities such as DRM, business-support systems, set-top box software solutions, software security and broadband-media services to more than 500 premier customers worldwide, extending across DVB, satellite, cable, digital, terrestrial, IPTV and mobile-TV services.
