It was a sad occasion for the first major use of LA Live’s recently-purchased Riedel’s MediorNet installation. The system was used in the broadcast of Michael Jackson’s Memorial, held in the Staples Centre, part of the LA Live complex in Los Angeles. MediorNet was responsible for the real-time distribution and routing of all HD video signals for the worldwide broadcast of the Michael Jackson Memorial. The system distributed the signals within the arena, as well as to the video walls and various broadcasting trucks outside. A total of eight MediorNet frames were installed at the LA Live complex. Together, they integrated signal transport, routing, signal processing and conversion into one integrated real-time network for uncompressed multichannel HD/SD video, audio, intercom and data. The MediorNet solution combined up to 153Gbps on a single fibre link, with each mainframe providing routing capacity for 32x32 720p/1080i signals, 160x160 SD-SDI signals, 27,000x 27,000 AES signals or any combination thereof. Besides the MediorNet system, a comprehensive Artist intercom installation took care of the communications infrastructure for the event. Said Dennis Kornegay of LA Live: “At 2009 NAB Show, we were excited about the promise of MediorNet. After our first use of the product, we were very pleased with the experience. We’re really glad that we chose Riedel’s MediorNet for the signal distribution backbone throughout our production complex. “With highly emotional events such as the Michael Jackson Memorial, it is important that we have technology that we can always rely on. The flexibility of MediorNet allows us to smoothly adapt to the needs of events like these.”
