Harris to supply 3Gbps-ready broadcast solution
Posted: January 2010

US-based Metrovision Production Group has selected the latest Harris 3Gbps-ready broadcast solutions , including the X50 synchroniser and converter and Videotek compact monitor series, to outfit a new HD production truck the media services company is building in partnership with Yankees Entertainment and Sports (YES) Network.

Scheduled to hit the road next month, the 40-foot Metrovision HD-2 truck, equipped with a 31-foot expando capabilities and a Ku-band satellite dish, is said to be the nation’s largest hybrid production/Ku mobile unit. Metrovision HD-2 will be used to produce HD programming for all of YES Network’s college football and basketball and Yankees’ pre- and post-game shows, as well as other events such as the Super Bowl XLIV.

Powering the new truck will be a fully-interoperable HD infrastructure comprising Harris Corporation’s latest space-saving and energy-efficient broadcast solutions.

Among them are: Sixteen X50 single-channel 1RU processors, which deliver best-in-class features such as integrated colour correction and optional 3Gbps and fibre-optic I/O in an affordable, energy-efficient package; Videotek compact monitor series, which provides testing of signal integrity across all DTV broadcast formats up to 3Gbps in a half-rack, energy-saving design; a 15RU Platinum video router with integrated Centrio multi-viewer, which provides a lower-cost monitoring solution, simpler system design and a more efficient use of space; and a 9RU Platinum audio router with TDM architecture, which enables discrete AES, discrete analogue and embedded audio to be processed within the same frame — further simplifying integration.
