| P7NEWS upgrades to open-system environment |
| Posted: November 2010 | ||||||
When India’s Pearls Broadcasting Corporation launched P7NEWS, the vision is to “encompass all the aspects of good media
and news reporting and coverage”. The company’s electronic news channel, P7News: Ek Umeed, is located in Noida, Utter Pradesh, in what is called the National Capital Region of New Delhi. P7NEWS recently decided to completely overhaul its existing technical and operational infrastructure. The new facility being built includes two live studios with production control rooms; a centralised equipment room; a fully automated newsroom solution; online graphics for a great look and feel to the channel; and a separate master control room. The project has been assigned to systems integrator Benchmark Broadcast Systems, which has recommended a complete “open-system” environment, including some HD-ready equipment to facilitate Channel P7’s transition to HD in the future. According to the broadcaster, the contract was awarded to Benchmark after it evaluated several systems integrators. P7NEWS cited Benchmark’s track record, after its management saw Benchmark’s workflow presentation and working methodology. Another plus point, said the station, is the system integrator’s reputation for bringing in projects on schedule and on budget. When completed, the upgraded TV station will have a complete digital workflow comprising newsroom automation systems, channel automation and control systems, news studios and programme content creation studios, production and master control rooms, channel branding, ticker, archiving and more. Benchmark’s focus in designing the workflow was on creating a rich media content, with many components in the facility easily and completely upgradeable to HDTV. In addition, the entire project will consist of cable and rack drawings, layout drawings for each area, power calculations for all equipment, cooling requirements for each area, all third-party interaction and much more. The completed facility will also include a state-of-art digital newsroom system from Octopus, automation control by Aveco, editing by Incite for news, and Apple Final Cut Pro systems for use with other TV programmes. There are also 3D graphics and tickers from Vizrt, and a SeaChange MediaLibrary/MediaClient (BML/MCL) for content storage.
