| Quantel to skip 2009 NAB Show |
| Posted: February 2009 | ||||||
“Prudence” has made Quantel to decide against participating in the much-awaited 2009 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, on April 18-23.Quantel CEO Ray Cross said that it was not a decision that the company arrived without a great deal of thought. “In the current general economic climate, we quite simply can’t justify the US$1million-plus investment that exhibiting at NAB would require,” Cross said in a statement. “This year we’re being prudent; I’m sure our customers are too.” In explaining Quantel’s absence from the 2009 NAB show, Cross made a categorical announcement regarding the company’s priority for 2009, which he referred to as a “challenging year”. “This year, delivery, not marketing, comes first,” he said, adding that Quantel is busy working on new projects for major customers around the world at the moment and also pushing ahead with exciting new developments such as V4.1 and beyond, RED workflow, Stereo3D, Dino and FCP server integration. Cross said that skipping the 2009 NAB Sshow would allow Quantel to focus fully on R&D and on deliveries to its customers. Quantel will go ahead with its roadshows in 2009 as the means to keep in close touch with the customers. “The roadshows we’ve been running around the world over the past year have showed us that many of our customers really appreciate the convenience and individual attention that such events can offer,” Cross said. “These initiatives will therefore continue to be at the forefront of our customer-facing activities over the coming months, in combination with the regular visits that our R&D, support, sales, marketing and management teams make to our users.”
