| US Congress postpones cut-off of analogue TV to June |

The new analogue cut-off date is thus expected to be on June 12, instead of February 17. President Obama earlier expressed concern over the inadequate preparations needed to ensure a smooth switch-over from analogue to digital broadcasting. Those with cable or satellite connections will not be affected by the termination of analogue TV signals. On the other hand, households using old antennas will be cut off from TV viewing if converter boxes are not installed to process the digital signals. It has also been announced that the distribution of the US$40 coupons as a subsidy for the purchase of converter boxes had been put on hold after the government ran out of money. The request for the coupons exceeded the projected 4.3 million demand by 2.9 million as of end-December 2008. Problem of possible shortage of converter boxes also compounds the unsatisfactory state of affairs. With the approval by both the US Senate and House, White House spokeswoman Amy Brundage said in a statement that "the passage of this bi-partisan legislation means that millions of Americans will have the time they need to prepare for the conversion".

The US House of Representatives, voting 264-158, approved on February 4 the Bill to delay the switch-over from analogue to digital broadcasting by four months.
