HYDERABAD – Next month, Latens will open a research and development (R&D) centre in the southern Indian state of
Andhra Pradesh, the company’s first outside its headquarters in Ireland. Latens said the Hyderabad centre will be the regional hub for software development for the company’s conditional access and middleware solutions for digital pay-TV. It added that it plans to invest in the new centre over the coming years but declined to reveal the amount of investment. According to Latens, Hyderabad was chosen among several countries evaluated, including those in Eastern Europe and South America. “India proved to have the best combination of suitable locations, skilled workforce, communication and cost,” Latens said. “We also have a major customer in India, Digicable.” By year-end, around 20 employees, mostly software engineers and developers, will be working in the Hyderabad centre, which will be headed by Mark Crum, Latens Engineering’s director. “Although the global markets are currently facing tough challenges, Latens continues to grow rapidly,” said Jeremy Thorp, Latens’ CEO. “The opening of our R&D centre in India enables us to continue developing new and innovative products, allowing us to better serve our existing and future customers across the world. “We are fully committed to the delivery of industry-leading solutions for digital pay-TV, and the Latens R&D centre in Hyderabad will be central to this,” Thorp added.
