| CCBN2009 shows booming domestic demands despite global downturn |

BEIJING – Despite the global economic crisis, the 2009 China Content Broadcasting Network Exhibition (CCBN2009) held at China International Exhibition Centre (CIEC) from 21-23 March did not show any indication of such a crisis. The turnout was huge, making the trade show almost on par with other large-scale conferences for the general public. The global economic crisis may have caused uncertainties for some. However, China’s national policy is apparently stimulating confidence and demand in the domestic broadcast market. Initial estimate has shown that over 280,000 visitors visited CCB2009, or 8% more than last year’s participants. This year saw the exhibition area expanded by 5% to 60,000sqm, while the number of exhibitors increased by 8%. The technology seminars were as popular as the exhibition with seminar rooms overflowing with participants, a great contrast to the relatively vacant rooms of previous years’. China’s broadcast industry’s development is closely integrated and linked to its national policies. Zhang Haitao, vice-president of State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), said in his keynote speech that there are plans to make available terrestrial DTV in 100 cities in the municipalities and provinces. These will enable the synchronous broadcast of SDTV and analogue TV. Last year, terrestrial DTV was made available in eight cities, including Beijing, marking the official start of digitising China’s terrestrial TV broadcast.
