Ross Video acquires Media Refinery
Posted: April 2009

xpress ross logoCanada’s Ross Video has completed the acquisition of the Netherlands-based Media Refinery, which produces the XPression 2D/3D HD character generator (CG).

The live graphics capability of XPression is said to complement Ross Video’s solutions for live productions. The acquisition has also enabled Ross Video to expand its presence in Europe.

“Ross now has offices and development staff based in the Netherlands,” said David Ross, CEO of Ross Video.

Media Refinery owner Bas Saleh said his employees based in Hilversum’s Media Park, the Netherlands, are now working with Ross Video Europe.

XPression is scheduled to debut as a Ross Video product at the 2009 NAB Show later this month.

The XPression software, which is available in different variants, can work with other hardware or can be bundled with Ross’ Vision turnkey solutions.

Software options include XPression Studio (the full package), XPression Player (for on-air playout), XPression Designer (for the graphics room) and XPression BlueBox (for use in master control and automated environments).

Despite being a high-end 3D CG, it is easy to use and automate, designed with the needs of the graphic designer, the programmer and the on-air operator in mind.

“As a data-driven system, XPression is able to easily integrate real-time data into 3D graphics and animations which has led to its extensive use in top-end game shows, news and sports productions with live connections to spreadsheets, databases, RSS feeds, newsroom editorial systems and other live data sources,” Ross Video said in a statement.

The software is designed to take advantage of the power of off-the-shelf GPU, CPU and I/O technology — offering unparalleled packaging flexibility.
