SPENA pumps up more action in 2010
Posted: February 2010

spenaSINGAPORE – The longstanding relationship between CBS Studios International and SPE Networks – Asia (SPENA) , where its channel brand AXN has first-run rights for all three CSI franchises, has been further extended with major title acquisitions that are set to premiere in 2010 on various SPENA channels.

Most notably, the brand-new NCIS spin-off series, NCIS: Los Angeles, is the next big thing coming to Asia, first and exclusively on AXN. The most successful drama series to have premiered during the current US TV season that started in September last year, NCIS: Los Angeles debuted in the US on the CBS network to 18.3 million viewers.

Said Ricky Ow, senior vice-president & general manager, SPENA: “I am delighted to have extended our partnership with CBS Studios International. The CSI franchise has worked wonders for AXN through the years, making us the undisputed ‘Home of CSI’ in Asia and propelling AXN to be the region’s top English general-entertainment destination. NCIS: Los Angeles has been one of the top performers this season and its high-impact, fast-paced action will resonate well with our viewers. I strongly believe that this show will be the next big hit on AXN, maintaining our position among the very best.”

In addition to NCIS: Los Angeles, SPENA has also acquired two other titles, Melrose Place and Three Rivers, for its female-skewing channel Sony Entertainment Television (SET). Melrose Place, the refreshed version of the popular 1992 drama series of the same title, and Three Rivers, a medical procedural series starring one of the most sought-after Asian hunks, Daniel Henney (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), are set to deliver the wickedly juicy entertainment to be expected on SET.

Said Barry Chamberlain, executive vice-president, sales, CBS Studios International: “We are delighted to be partnering with SPE Networks throughout Asia on three of our high profile new series this season: Three Rivers, the new Melrose Place and NCIS: Los Angeles. With NCIS: Los Angeles’ quick ascent as the No.1 new show on TV in the US, we are confident that SPE Networks will find equal success in Asia.”
