SINGAPORE – M1, Singapore’s third largest telecommunication company, recently signalled its intention
to enter the pay-TV arena in Singapore with the launch of 1box.Available exclusively to M1 Home Broadband subscribers, 1box promises to “bring an array of compelling content and services to the TV screens of M1 Home Broadband customers”. Offered as a value-added service with a lifestyle-and-entertainment focus for M1’s fibre, cable and ADSL Home Broadband customers, 1box is a simple-to-use plug-and-play device that connects the 1box set-top box to any HDTV set via a HDMI cable. With the 1box, viewers are able to access Web content on TV, including streaming videos from popular websites such as YouTube, Clicknetwork.tv and Discovery Channel, while staying in touch with family and friends on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter. By connecting their external media storage to 1box via the USB port, viewers can also share their personal videos, music or photos with family and friends on TV. The main categories of content services available on 1box include education, music, movies and games. Viewers can subscribe to the content services on a monthly-subscription basis while content such as movies will be charged on a pay-per-view basis. “We are excited to offer our customers more lifestyle and entertainment choices via this new multimedia platform. With its wide range of TV Internet and content capability, 1box will provide many hours of entertainment for the whole family. Most importantly, it will enable customers to get more out of their current M1 Home Broadband service,” said P Subramaniam, chief marketing officer of M1. “1box will be one of many more innovative services from M1 that will leverage on our ultra-fast fibre broadband service that was launched on [Singapore’s] Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network.”
