Singapore – Viewers of the AXN channel will be treated to what the network calls the region’s “first-ever” TV musical,
when The Kitchen Musical premieres on AXN across Asia in October this year. The Kitchen Musical is an original Asian production conceptualised and being produced by Singapore-based The Group Entertainment. Thirteen one-hour episodes will be aired during primetime in over 22 Asian countries where AXN is available. The Kitchen Musical is set in the musical world of a famous restaurant, where a rich young girl, fresh out of the Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in Paris, embarks on a journey of self-discovery when she starts working in the restaurant’s kitchen among the masses. Each instalment will showcase re-arranged and re-recorded popular hit songs brought to life by specially choreographed dance sequences, while viewers can also look forward to new dishes and desserts highlighted in every episode. The TV musical will star the likes of Stephen Rahman Hughes, previously seen in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Bombay Dreams, as well as Filipino singing sensation Christian Bautista. Ricky Aw, senior vice-president and general manager, Networks, Asia, at Sony Pictures Television, said: “Featuring some very talented Asians, [The Kitchen Musical] will tap into Asian viewers’ passion for drama, music, dance and food … We are confident that the high production quality and high energy of The Kitchen Musical will have a broad appeal among our viewers.”
