A reference material on new system and protocol specifications for setting up interoperable IPTV networks and devices is finally available for industry players.Published by Open IPTV Forum (OIPF), an industry alliance, Release 1 IPTV Solution Specification is expected to pave the way for a wider IPTV market base by enlightening the current and prospective users on the basic information about the service. This is premised on the idea that greater knowledge will give greater control to the user. Containing seven volumes, Release 1 includes: Accompanying the materials is an updated version of the Functional Architecture specification for Release 1. "I am confident that IPTV Release 1 will contribute to the global growth of IPTV deployment in the near term," said OIPF chairman Yun Chao Hu. He added: "The OIPF is already working on its next release of specifications; the direction for this work has been set by the publication of the Service & Platform Requirements for Release 2." Scheduled to be finished by end-2009 is Release 2, which will provide answers to questions on interoperability testing and profiling.
