Indosat is currently serving 39.1 million subscribers in Indonesia.

The modernisation will not only prepare the network to migrate to next-generation long-term evolution (LTE) technology, but also gear it up with features that reduce energy consumption and footprint, making the network more environmentally-friendly while reducing operating costs. The sustainable character of this network will be boosted by a number of “green sites” powered by alternative energy sources.

Indo-sat’s president director, said: “We proudly launch the fastest Internet access DC-HSPA+ 42Mbps, in which Indosat is the first operator in Asia and the second in the world. Besides providing the fastest download data up to 42Mbps, through the network modernisation, Indosat is also supporting the telecommunication industry in creating ‘green telco’ that will reduce the power consumption and create a friendly environment. It will also be beneficial as it creates efficiency for the company.”

Johan Wibergh, head of Ericsson’s networks unit, added: “With mobile data traffic doubling every year, network modernisation has become key for operators to continue offering the best experience to their customers while reducing total cost of ownership and taking care of their own environmental impact”.

As part of the agreement Ericsson will provide Indosat with latest technology available: Radio Base Station (RBS) 6000; MSS Blade Cluster; and MINI-LINK TN. Network design, deployment, training and support services are also part of the agreement.
