| Visionary Solutions powers Mai TV's IPTV streaming service |
| Posted: April 2011 | ||||||
Visionary Solutions, a provider of encoders and related equipment for multiple IPTV applications,
said Fiji-based Mai TV has successfully deployed its encoders to stream programming for the broadcaster’s new 24-hour Web channel, Mai TV Live. Mai TV, which relies exclusively on IPTV technology to power its broadcasts, is one of two free-to-air networks in Fiji, and the company has created the online channel primarily to serve the thousands of Fijians living overseas. The system installed by Mai TV includes Visionary Solutions’ Media Processing Platform blade/chassis system and the VSiCaster streaming system, developed in partnership with streaming service provider NetroMedia. The flexible and cost-effective platforms provide Mai TV encoding options for edge acquisition and distribution of digital content they receive from programmers worldwide. “We are very proud to be able to offer this service online,” said Mai TV’s CEO, Richard Broadbridge. “An online service like this is a first for Fijian television. Now, people longing for a glimpse of Fijian life back home can log on at any time, day or night, and watch streaming broadcasts for free, wherever there is an Internet connection.” Mai TV Live will initially be programmed as a direct mirror of the programming shown over the air. However, the network plans to eventually create programming specifically for the online audience. The Mai TV network features many local programmes and other popular content from around the world, such as Al Jazeera. Mai TV also holds Pacific broadcasting rights to IFNA World Netball Championships, the FIFA World Cup and Oceania Football, along with several high profile local shows. “Visionary Solutions’ encoding equipment made the transition to online streaming very simple for us,” Broadbridge continued. “We were initially quite skeptical that we could make this move so easily, but the end-result is a system with performance that far exceeds our expectations.” The Mai TV installation also includes Visionary Solutions equipment for the processing of its over-the-air broadcasts.
